Are you aware who is the original Mother and Father of "Good Governance" in India? Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Indian Prime Minister who's birthday, 25 December, was declared as national "Good Governance Day" by Narendra Modi government in 2014? No, you got it wrong.
It's Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee who had originally given this novel concept of "Good Governance" to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vajpayee's NDA government in 1998.
Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee was then serving as an inspector of Customs in 1998 in Pune, Maharashtra. He couldn't directly write to BJP leaders to give any political suggestions to BJP government which was to be sworn in 1998, as he was governed by Civil Services Conduct Rules, 1972. Therefore, he requested a lady, his close relative to send a letter to Sushma Swaraj, the firebrand BJP women-leader, containing his suggestion for "Good Governance." The letter contained an earnest plea that the new BJP government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee must adopt "Good Governance" as its new key governing Mantra. Other suggestions included giving representation to each region and state in Central Cabinet ministry.
Looking back, it's clear that Sushma Swaraj lapped up Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee's golden suggestions. That's why, the 1998 Atal Bihari Vajpayee ministery included ministers from every region of India and this fact was emphasised upon while announcing names of ministers during oath ceremony in 1998. That's why the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government declared "Good Governance" to be its golden Key to public administration in India.
