How is Donald Trump Practising Loglobalisation? Excerpts from an Interview with Dr. Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee

Donald Trump in his second term as the USA President has unleashed a global tariff-war, causing much concern all over the world. This has made him being seen as against globalisation by his critics who point out to his anti-China and USA-First policy rhetoric as stark evidence in support of their contention.

Our team asked Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee if President Donald Trump is really against globalisation as evident from his anti-China and USA-First policy.

Excerpts from a snap interview with Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee.

Question: Do you see President Donald Trump as against globalisation?

Dr Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee: No, President Donald Trump isn’t really against globalisation. His anti-China and USA-First policy stances coupled with recent tariff-war don’t reflect his anti-Globalisation economic-political thought.

  • He is actually practising a novel way of economic-political handling of crisis. This novel way may be termed as the concept of Loglobalisation or .
  • The term Loglobalisation or  Lglobalisation comes from two words: Localised and Globalisation. When you add these two words - Localised + Globalisation - then these two turn into an altogether new third concept which may be called “Loglobalisation”.
  • The Loglobalisation is a judicious mix of Localised Globalisation and Globalised Localisation to achieve a balanced synergy between local and global economic-politico interests or goals.
  • Localised Globalisation entails promotion of local economic-political interests at the cost of global economic-political interests. Whereas Globalised Localisation encompasses promotion of global economic-political interests at the cost of local economic-political interests.
  • Loglobalisation means effective balanced corporate or economic strategy whereby corporate or national interests of various kinds on local levels, are prioritised while still benefiting from positive fruits of global economic integration without  harmful effects.
  • The concept of  Loglobalisation is different from concepts of globalisation, deglobalisation, and glocalisation.
  • The actual policies being implemented by Donald Trump and the current data would reflect the fact that the current American president indeed is practising the novel concept of Loglobalisation  especially to protect the interests of the working class in the USA without succumbing to negative pitfalls of unrestrained winds of globalisation.
  • Donald Trump has been succesful in renegotiating trade deals with trade partners such as China to ensure the USA isn't the loser when it comes to tariffs. He is in the process of forcing or persuading European Union and others to reduce tariffs on the American products and services, encouraging companies to start manufacturing in the USA.
  • The USA shall be economically and politically benefited if the loglobalisation works out smoothly. However, Donald Trump has to ensure he doesn't overdo his tariff-war or protectionism.

Editorial Critique:
  • While concept of Loglobalisation is interestingly a useful unique novel concept, it does slightly resemble with concept of Glocalisation though partially.
  • The concept of Loglobalisation isn't mentioned or discussed in mainstream economic or political thought or peer-reviewed.
  • Recent studies like the one by The Peterson Institute for International Economics  don't seem to support Dr. Swaamee Aprtemaanandaa Jee's theory that the Loglobalisation purportedly practised by Trump has helped the average American. For example, Warwick J. McKibbin (PIIE; Australian National University) and Geoffrey Shuetrim (McKibbin Software Group Pty Ltd.) in their PIIE Briefings 25-2 April 2025, reported that "President Donald J. Trump’s new tariffs could generate trillions of dollars in new federal government revenue over a decade, but the net gain would be reduced by the measures’ damaging effects on the US economy and the other economies’ likely retaliation..." They used "...a global economic model to assess the effects of US tariff increases of 10, 15, or 20 percentage points on all imported goods." They found that "Under each of these three tariff rate scenarios, the United States would see lower GDP, investment, employment, and real wages over the following decade than otherwise—i.e., than without the tariff increases—and higher inflation over the initial two years... The US sectors hit hardest would be agriculture, mining, and manufacturing because of their relatively high reliance on foreign demand for their exports. The harm would be amplified by retaliation from trading partners..."
  • These studies have highlighted serious negative fallouts of Trump’s tariffs,  market volatility like higher costs for retailers, rising living costs in the long run and damage to the American economy
