A SPARK NEGLECTED BURNS THE PEACE - THE UGLY VIOLENT CLASH ON 2 NOVEMBER BETWEEN DELHI POLICE AND LAWYERS AT TIS HAZARI COURT
The ugly
violent clash on Saturday, 2 November between Delhi police and lawyers at Tis Hazari
Court in Delhi has taken public by surprise. It has lowered their image in
public eye.
The instant video shows disproportionate Police action against
agitated lawyers who can be seen being chased by police personnel. Police personnel
can be seen smashing cars. Alongside, you can see humane side too wherein
a police officer can be seen escorting a limping civilian by holding him gently
by shoulder in the last part of video.
The video was supplied to us by our one reliable source, on
condition of absolute anonymity. We do not vouchsafe or certify its veracity
and contents. We do not intend to malign image of police or judiciary. Our
sole purpose of putting up this video is to sensitize in public
interests top police brass to encourage them to train their field personnel
on how to deal with tricky social tension situations without letting violent
scenes erupt in sharp contrast to most unfortunate mayhem witnessed at Tis
Hazari Court.
Mainstream mass media has given
one-sided story only, leaning heavily in favour of Delhi police. It has carefully put under carpet cases of highhandedness
by cops. This behavior of mainstream media does not bode well for a healthy
functioning of any healthy representative democracy.
Our reliable sources have on condition of anonymity, narrated
ordeal faced by several innocent senior and junior lawyers in brutal police
action. In one instance, a very senior advocate had flown in a chartered flight
from Mumbai along with his team of five assistant lady-lawyers. He was there
for attending a hearing. He wasn’t even aware of the tussle between lawyers and
police. He was beaten up black and blue by raging cops along with his five
lady-lawyers.
One of his lady-lawyers had a horrifying experience. She
was humiliatingly pulled out of washroom where she had hidden for safety by a
male cop. He hit her bosom with his fist. Her dignity was lowered in all
possible humiliating manners including molestation short of rape by male
policemen , derogatory activities against woman that are punishable under all sub-sections
of Section 354 of Indian Penal Code.
Several lady-advocates had the same dehumanizing experience
at the hands of a male police force that had gone berserk.
Chambers of lawyers who were not even part of ongoing
ruckus were smashed for no reason by violent police personnel. Police force entered
chambers forcibly and beat them up violently. Many advocates sustained injuries
on their bodies including fractures in hands and feet. Some had their ears
bleeding.
We demand an impartial inquiry into
the ugly incident of Tis Hazari Court and urge both the Executive and the
Judiciary to sensitize their officers for the urgent need to train their
members in solving conflicts amicably and amiably.
